Stencils Inside of Celebrate People's History by Josh MacPhee

Stencil artists abound in this new book of Celebrate People's History posters by Josh MacPhee, now out from Feminist Press. Haven't seen the book yet, but know that stencil artists include: SWOON, Klutch, Chris Stain, Josh MacPhee, Janet Attard, and myself. I am sure that there are more as well because I know that some CPH posters start off as cut-out art.

My stencil is an element in a poster on South Carolina's Stono Rebellion. The main artwork is by long-time collaborator and friend Mark Cort, and I conceived the idea and developed the text. Josh did all the great photoshopping of the various elements I mailed to him.

hope you check it out and enjoy: http://www.feministpress.org/books/celebrate-peoples-history

28 Oct :: Vinyl Killers 8 (Portland, OR)

The Last VK ever!

Vinyl Killers 8 opens on October 28th in Portland, Oregon at The Goodfoot. The Goodfoot is located at 2845 SE Stark St. and is open daily from 4 PM to 2:30 AM.  The show will be up until Nov 30th.

There will also be vinyl only selections from dj's monkeytek, ryan organ and samizdat during the opening

The often imitated, never duplicated, OG vinyl art show, Vinyl Killers returns this October for another round of rescuing long forgotten records from the world’s landfills. This year there have been at least 6 other vinyl shows in North America alone and interest in the artform is at an all time high. After seven annual shows and several touring exhibits Vinyl Killers remains committed to staying open call, independent, D-I-Y, and free of corporate sponsorship.

Since it’s inception in 2003 Vinyl Killers has showcased well over 1000 records painted by artists from around the world. A quick glance at the VK website shows both the genres global influence and the absolutely amazing things that are being done with paint and old records. Media recognition for this innovative show includes The Art Of Rebellion 2 and Stencil Nation, and features in numerous international street art magazines and blogs. In 2005 Klutch, the founder and curator of VK, had the room that he decorated with painted records for San Francisco's Hotel Des Arts featured in Time magazine.

Unfortunately this will be the last Vinyl Killers.

Simpsons Couch Gag by Banksy (Video)

Props to Simpsons creator Matt Groening for giving Banksy free reign over the coveted couch gag at the opening of Season 22's Episode 3. A friend on the East Coast texted me "woah" after seeing the bit, and that sums up a not-that-funny-ha-ha skewering of the corporate workings of mega-media companies like Fox.
