The anti-consumerist guerrilla artist, dubbed New York's Banksy, was picked up by plain clothed officers on Saturday at an art show in the SoHo area of Manhattan, his presence at the event having been openly proclaimed on a fly leaflet.

AP alleges copyright infringement of Obama image

NEW YORK (AP) - On buttons, posters and Web sites, the image was everywhere during last year's presidential campaign: A pensive Barack Obama looking upward, as if to the future, splashed in a Warholesque red, white and blue and underlined with the caption HOPE.

Designed by Shepard Fairey, a Los-Angeles based street artist, the image has led to sales of hundreds of thousands of posters and stickers, has become so much in demand that copies signed by Fairey have been purchased for thousands of dollars on eBay.

Here is the final batch of photos I took last month during the EU visit. Many new artist archives with this one, along with some submissions from "Submit" here on the site.

14-time arresstee, and now arguably the most famous American artist in the 21st century, Shepard Fairey chats and stencils during an award acceptance video on USA Network. His original Obama image now lives in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery!

Just uploaded a large chunk of my photos from the past few weeks here in East Europe. And, along with a pile of submissions from artists and photographers, Stencil Archive has passed the 12,000 photo marker! Now that uploading photos online is super easy, I appreciate everyone's participation in this site even more. I am posting to other sites, but only give out 2 or 4. You do know that Flickr/Yahoo owns your photos don't you? Once you upload? Check the agreement you OK'd!
