The Art Dept.'s new show Future Primitive features the work of Philadelphia based artist Joe Boruchow. The show will open Friday June 7th and will be up through August. Come and join us first Friday to open the show with a bang!

Previously, his art was limited to what was possible only with graphite pencils and pens, but spray paint stencils offered him a whole new route of exploration. Drawn to the process, execution, and dedication required, David embraced and immediately began to explore the boundaries of the medium. David was quickly recognized internationally for his stencil works for his finger-numbing precision and perfection.
The walls of Beirut talk volumes about the city and its habitants. Many of the city's bullet-scarred walls are covered in words, drawings, signs, slogans and graffiti art. They offer a glimpse both of a vibrant and emerging art culture as well as the abiding dark force of political sectarianism.

Metamorphosis.
Metamorphosis is an exploration into the archetype's of the human psyche. As humans, we create the archetypes that exist amongst us as individuals, and as a part of a couple, a family, a tribe or a nation.
Here HAHA investigates these archetypes by means of stencil: fusing portraits of people together to find a link or connection between couples, or by fusing man with machine and beast.
The viewer is presented and faced with questions about the archetype within relationships, transhumanism & the beast man.
HAHA
HAHA (Regan Tamanui) is one of Australia's most notorious and prolific stencil artists. He called the Blender Studios home for many years before extending his art practice with an extended, overseas trip.
Now he is back, and is having his first solo show since returning to Melbourne at Blender Studios' gallery Dark Horse Experiment.

The ongoing economic crisis and the rise of all kinds of populism in Europe demonstrate a dangerous backlash in 21st century history; meanwhile extreme industrialization, mass production & over consumption has led global warming to break all records. Quarrels over diminishing but vital natural resources and shrinking living space may well be the cause of future conflicts. However fucked up the situation our world is facing right now, there is still hope. To keep faith, we need to remember people’s abilities to protest and to resist. Protest is when I say this does not please me. Resistance is when I ensure what does not please me occurs no more. From the Arab Spring to the Occupy movement, the eastern and western worlds have both lately shown the capability to fight against establishment. Protest always starts in the streets, and so often does art. The street is a mixture of languages and a hotchpotch of voices, where the pictograms of road signs and the surreal messages written by street artists live side by side, and where the simple commercial communication runs up against the political. To the careful observer the street makes visible the underlying noise of our society.
By acknowledging the social and political unrest of our time, OPEN WALLS Gallery cordially invites you as we debut Dissidents, a group show. A dissident, broadly defined, is a person who actively challenges an established doctrine, policy, or institution. Using the urban landscape as a playground, seeking truth and raising awareness, the artists that we have chosen for this show strive for non-conformity and create work representative of both political and social opposition, making them pioneers of dissident activity.

An American painter and Stencilist, Amanda "Mando" Marie has been living and painting in Colorado since 2001. She attended the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design and has exhibited extensively in the US and Europe.
