We would like to invite you to participate in SWEET STREETS - a festival of Urban and Street art in Melbourne. Re-branded from the Melbourne Stencil Festival (since 2004), Sweet Streets wishes to celebrate a range of art styles on the streets and in the galleries, that are integral to urban art culture around the world. Download PDF entry form here.
The festival will be held at 1000 Pound Bend in the city of Melbourne from the 8th to the 24th of October 2010. Centered around a prestigious award exhibition the festival will feature works by local Australian and international artists working in a range of styles including but not limited to - Stencil Art, Freehand graffiti, illustration, sculpture, installation, mixed media, collage, paste-ups, stickers, custom toys, yarn bombing, knit graffiti and more! We encourage artists to submit works from any style and medium they feel is related to Urban Art culture. Artists selected for the award exhibition will also have the chance to feature and sell their merchandise at the venue during the festival.
Last year the award show featured Australian artists such as ELK, Tom Civil, HaHa, Numskull and Psalm. This year, with a focus on including key international artists alongside the Australian representatives, the award show will feature works by artists such as DRYPNZ from New Zealand, FAB Family from Indonesia, Clogtwo from Singapore, film work by Zevs (France), and prints by Shepard Fairy. We invite you to enter works to show alongside these amazing artists and more.
At this venue, we will also feature a film night, fundraising event, charity auction, workshops and forums during the two weeks of the festival. Other events of the festival include live painting, collaborative murals, public art, street-art tours, group shows at selected associated galleries, and classes for kids and adults.
Artists from Asia, America, Europe and New Zealand have been invited to take part in this event - both contributing works to the award exhibition, and collaborating in the live street events. The festival will be about bringing together an exciting community of street artists from around the world to make art, share their skills and passion, and have a party! We also hope to educate and support the professional development of urban art styles through forums, workshops, and the award show.
We invite you to enter the award exhibition - as well as express your interest in taking part in this years festival through the live spraying events, workshops, or your own project you are interested in making part of the festival.
Entries officially close on the 22nd August. Please send through all the details stated on the entry form before this date to be eligible for selection.
We look forward to your participation!!
Cheers,
Tessa
